On Tuesday 19th March, WarrPAC held a 'Preparing for Adulthood' evening session.We were joined by Helen Taylor (PFA Lead), Neil Woodward (Inclusive Employment Manager), Glennis Wood (CWD Team Manager) and Angela Adams (Service Development Manager for LD and MH services, Adult social Care)Topics covered in the session; Introduction to Preparing for Adulthood (PFA) Team Who, What and When young people should be provided with ‘Good, Quality, Careers Advice’? Mental Capacity Act overview and how this is assessed. Court of Protection Deprivation of Liberties Court of DeputyAngela Adams provided a success story, demonstrating how working with young people, families, and services as early as possible, can lead to great outcomes. The example shared explained how adaptations were made to the young person’s home to ensure they were safe and that the young person’s needs were met, including sensory needs, to enable the young person to live as independently as possible.We would like to THANK YOU for your feedback provided in this session!YOUR VOICE MATTERS! Sharing for our families who may find this helpful. 💚 Free children’s wheelchair mobility-training workshop running in Manchester on Saturday 27th April 10am – 2pm. The workshop is open to all young wheelchair users throughout the region. Anyone wishing to attend should email training@gokidsgo.org.uk On the workshop we teach skills such as coping with slopes and rough ground, back wheel balancing, road safety and emergency evacuation techniques. We also play games like wheelchair basketball and try out wheelchair dance. We bring extra chairs so mums, dads and siblings can get involved and join in the games. Whilst the objectives are serious the workshops are good fun! Go Kids Go run free manual & powered wheelchair workshops and we also run practical wheelchair skills workshops for professionals and disability awareness workshops in mainstream schools. Go Kids Go work in partnership with a number of wheelchair services to deliver our training. Don't forget, tonight is our Preparing for Adulthood evening session, come along to Alford Sports and Social Club from 7.30pm till 9.30pm. 💚Warrington borough Council are working with WarrPAC to put together some information around Preparing for Adulthood (PFA). This work needs to be driven by the shared experience of families in Warrington so please come along and have your say. This event is open to everyone including those who are not members of WarrPAC. This work aims to look at the bigger picture of everything which encompasses preparing our young people for adulthood. We will be holding events and focus groups to work our way through the different aspects of PFA to ultimately create easily accessible information and resources to help guide and support our families through this important transition. This session will focus on PFA as a whole and COP DOL (Court of Protection & Depravation of Liberties).
